Screen Printing Workshop at RADADA Studio
Explore Latvian heritage through contemporary design.
The workshop begins with an introduction to the RADADA studio – a creative space where tradition meets modern expression. RADADA's original designs are inspired by Latvia’s rich cultural heritage, nature, and ancient symbols. These patterns aren’t just visual elements – they carry stories about our roots, values, worldview, and connection to the environment.
Students are introduced to the creative process behind these designs and learn how traditional Latvian ornaments, folk motifs, and natural landscapes are transformed into modern visual language. They develop an understanding of cultural heritage not as something static or distant, but as a living source of inspiration. This part of the workshop encourages visual thinking, appreciation for design, and the ability to interpret tradition in a contemporary context.
RADADA is more than just a workshop – it’s a space where the younger generation can experience that culture is something alive, evolving, and relevant. Here, students gain insight into the role of design in society, learn how to express themselves through visual art, and discover how their ideas can become tangible, functional objects.
Through hands-on screen printing, students not only learn a valuable craft but also:
-
engage with Latvian cultural and design heritage,
-
develop creativity and visual literacy,
-
learn to bridge tradition with innovation,
-
gain a deeper sense of cultural identity and belonging,
-
experience the joy of creating something with their own hands.
As part of the experience, each participant will get the chance to try the screen printing technique on a cotton shopper bag, using one of RADADA’s original, heritage-inspired designs. It’s a hands-on way to take tradition home – quite literally – in a fresh and functional form.
This is more than a creative workshop – it’s a meaningful cultural encounter. Students leave with a unique item they’ve made themselves and a stronger connection to their heritage, seen through a modern, personal lens.
